Then you are susceptible to a disease called GRIVASANDHIGATAVATA / APABHAHUKA – CERVICAL SPONDYLITIS.

Ayurveda says vitiation of vata dosha due to change in lifestyle in modern era leads to Grivasandhigatavata / Apabhahuka which is emerging as a widespread problem in society.

Cervical spondylitis is a chronic degenerative condition of the cervical spine.

It happens due to reduction in the space between two vertebras which compresses the spinal cord or its branches resulting in vitiation of vata dosha along with kapha or pitta.

The severity of this disease depends on the intensity of pain or chronicity of disease.

- Stages of Chronicity are Mild, Moderate & Severe

Mild – A pain that might not hinder your activity

Moderate – Intensity of the pain is more to a level creating hindrance in the work

Severe - as the stage suggests, creates complete inability to perform any work/activity.
Mild and Moderate stages of this disease is easy to treat with quicker recovery. However severe stage is highly concerning since treatment to this stage involves consideration of an individual’s strength.
As we all are aware Ayurveda treatments (internal medication) will not have side effects compared to other medical practices, moreover with classical and traditional Panchakarma therapies even the severe stage of this disease can be cured easily and quickly.

One may wonder how this is possible. It is really possible because the treatment involves Panchakarma, which eliminates the Toxins from the cervical region then Shamana a process which will pacify remaining doshas and finally Rasayana (rejuvenation) administered to strengthen the cervical region, which not only cures the disease thoroughly but it also helps to bring back the natural strength and vitality.

Last but not least, patients having this disease should modify their life-style and follow few dietary habits. Food to be avoided are curd, potato, brinjal, too much of tea & coffee, alcohol, smoking. Life styles like sitting and sleeping positions to be disciplined and avoid or control speedy & long rides over the two wheeler.

Ayurveda believes - ‘Healthy living is Happy Living’
